Hair loss in men and women can now be solved using an effective procedure for natural hair regeneration in the form of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. This form of therapy is cutting edge and non-surgical.
What Is PRP?
PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma, contains platelets that can lead to hair growth by stimulating the stem cells in the area around the hair follicles. Platelets contain glycogen, lysosomes, and granules. These elements allow for healing, regeneration, and new cellular growth. All of this can help the hair follicles regenerate and produce good amounts of hair. In some cases, new hair follicles need to be implanted before PRP.
PRP therapy has been used in the medical industry for over 20 years but only recently has been adopted as a hair-loss solution. The procedure is typically used for healing wounds and promoting regeneration in different parts of the body.
Is PRP Right for Me?
Men and women with hair loss and thinning hair are good candidates for this procedure. Men suffering from male-pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) and women who are losing hair drastically can opt for this. It is important to note that this treatment does not work for patients who are already bald. While PRP can encourage hair growth, it cannot grow hair on bald spots.
Patients suffering from chronic diseases like liver problems, skin diseases, cancer, and metabolic disorders are not eligible for this treatment. On the same note, patients who have previously undergone anti-coagulation therapy cannot undergo this procedure. Patients suffering from any type of platelet dysfunction or disorder are ineligible for this therapy.
The Treatment Process
The first step of the therapy is the drawing of blood from the patient. This is a routine procedure that causes almost no discomfort. The blood is then passed through a centrifuge to separate the PRP. The PRP is then injected into the patient’s scalp after a numbing cream is applied. Local anesthesia may also be used. Alternately, PRP can also be rubbed on after a dermaroller treatment. The PRP will eventually promote healing and regeneration to cause increased hair growth. To speed up results, medication might be prescribed during the course of the treatment.
Results
PRP therapy has varying results on different individuals. Generally, this treatment restores fullness and volume to thinning hair. Hair regeneration will start in around 30 days from the treatment date. Safety is not an issue, as the therapy is non-surgical and only minimally invasive.
